Preparing for Emily's Wedding - aka Our Trip to Portland - July 2015

So it's been about 3 years since our riverboat tour in Europe.  We've actually taken a few other trips since then.

One trip was to Charleston and Savannah.  We drove to Wilmington NC and spent a night with the Mike and Kathy Leonard.  Sorry for the time sequencing here.  I'm actually preparing to write about our current trip to Portland OR, but getting back into this blog site, I realized how long it's been since I made any posts.  So the posts for Charleston/Savannah and another trip we took to Asheland (Biltmore House) and Charlottesville (Monticello) will come later.  In the wrong time sequence, but I hope with pictures and memories that are accurate.

So today is July 4th 2015.  If that is the country's official birthday, then the USA is 239 years old.  Not a bad experiment!

Yesterday we left Baltimore about 11:10 AM and arrived in Oakland about 1:30 PM local time. We picked up our rental car and GPS'd our way to Mark and Susan's place in Redwood City.  Their home is beautiful.  Katyrose is away at camp, so we are using her room.  It's too bad the timing worked out that way.  It would have been nice to see her again , but this time in her own element.  Anyway, we hung with M&S for a while and talked - catching up. They both took a dip in their pool, we demured.  Not because the pool wasn't inviting, but getting undressed and then dressing again for dinner just seemed too daunting a task.  The pool is really nice and sits in the middle of their very private backyard. Kind of a haven amidst the the surrounding homes.

We went to dinner at a restaurant called Towne in San Carlos - not too far from their home. Nice restaurant in a "happening" part of town. Mark pointed out the Tesla parked across the street. Seems to be big tech money in this area.

The itinirary for today is to relax and then head into SF later today.  We'll be hooking up with some friend's of theirs and watching the fireworks over the Golden Gate Bridge tonight.  We will be coming back to M&S's to spend the night.  Tomorrow, we head north.  First stop Garberville and the giant redwoods.
